Disabilities MSD Rare Diseases Trusting God

Never Doubt the Miracles of God

It’s been awhile since I’ve written about the very sad situation of a group of children worldwide who have a very rare disease called Multiple Sulfatase Deficiency (MSD). These precious children have a disease that takes their lives, usually by age 10 in horrifically devastating way.  It robs them of their chance to grow into adulthood and their families are left to simply watch their beautiful children literally die before their eyes.  As a mother of four, I can’t even imagine how that must feel. God knows though, and I have no doubt that He has an army of angels surrounding each child and their families.

Amazingly, there is a known cure.  The gene that causes MSD has been isolated and laboratory work is being successfully done. But to create the cure in the lab followed by bringing it to the children takes a lot of money.  Money that big pharmaceutical companies are not generally eager to spend since the return on their investment is low.  A return on investment resulting in lives saved doesn’t seem low to me at all. But regardless of my feelings, the fundraising task fell squarely on the parents and those who have been touched by these children’s plight.

When I first started following Willow’s story and subsequently was informed of other children around the world with MSD, my heart was broken. To see what these children go through, along with parents and love ones was too much to take.  I took my heartache to God and as always, was washed with the knowledge that He knows the bigger picture.  He’s got this covered. I know that there will be a cure for these children in the future and testing that will prevent symptoms from ever occurring.

A few weeks ago, an anonymous Angel donor came forth with 1.6 million dollars to produce the cure and get it out of the lab. Everyone was stunned and filled with awe and appreciation.  There is still another million that needs to be raised to fund the clinical trials but, once again, God will come through as He always does.

I’m reminded of two Bible verses. The first, Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” and Matthew 17:20, “He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’”  Does this mean that we haven’t prayed enough or had enough faith? I don’t believe so. Our God is sovereign and all things we pray for are done or not done according to His will and as importantly, in His timing.  We are His children and He loves us in a way that we can never understand the depth of here on earth.

So do I still have faith that these children will be cured?  Absolutely, but it will be done according to God’s plan. Just like the 1.6 Million dollar donation didn’t come at the start of this quest, it came at just the right time, when the success was phenomenal in the lab and the time would come soon to produce it and start clinical trials. He will see through the completion of this cure from beginning to end. The cure will not reverse any damage done but it will halt it. It’s sad to think that some children will not make it through that time, however we are also assured that when they no longer live on this earth with us, they are with our Almighty compassionate God who showed His love of children when Christ walked the earth.

I believe that when we ask God for something, we should no longer fret or worry. I do, however, feel that He wants us to continue to do work on this earth to reach our goal with His guidance. Jesus showed such compassion for the sick and helpless while He was on earth. We need to emulate His example. The biggest thing the quest to cure MSD needs right now, besides funding, is for their story to go viral. We need to share so enormously that those who have the means and the heart will join the  loving, compassionate person who donated such a large amount to complete the lab phase.

There are so many people out there, just like that, with big hearts and money to do God’s work – we just need them to be aware of these precious children and the disease that causes so much suffering. So share on your social media, with your friends and family, co-workers and anyone else you come into contact with.  Eventually we’ll reach the right person because we know, that God has this covered! Above all, pray for these children and their families. God hears every prayer said for them.
